DAIRRC’s Rehabilitation Centres are at Mumbai and at Kushivali.
The Centre at Kushivali is situated at the foothills of the picturesque Haji Malang mountain range of the Western ghats. The Centre caters only to a maximum of 30 patients at a time (so that each gets individual attention) and is spread over 60,000 square feet of land.
DAIRRC’s goal is total abstinence for the addict. The treatment method, based on Narcotics Anonymous, has three phases: Motivation, Detoxification, and Rehabilitation. Over 20,000 drug addicts have been treated by DAIRRC’s program. DAIRRC does not believe in “cold turkey” treatment. Rehabilitation takes anywhere from 4 to 9 months and DAIRRC believes that follow up is important as well. Most of the patients DAIRRC deals with are heroin addicts, although they have dealt with prescription medications, cocaine, and others.
